3. Encourages Emotional Awareness and Processing
Therapeutic reparenting involves understanding and validating one’s emotions. Memory games offer moments of pause and mindfulness, helping individuals recognize and process their feelings in a gentle, non-intrusive way. This emotional awareness fosters healing and empowers users to respond to themselves with care and understanding.
4. Builds Resilience and Self-Confidence
Playing memory games can boost self-confidence and build resilience, especially for those working on healing self-worth. By mastering the game, individuals experience success and accomplishment, reinforcing positive self-beliefs. This supports the reparenting goal of building inner strength, resilience, and a sense of worthiness.
5. Enhances Patience and Emotional Regulation
Reparenting often involves developing patience and emotional regulation, qualities that memory games naturally nurture. Playing requires focus, patience, and resilience, helping individuals practice self-soothing techniques and respond to frustration with calm and understanding.
6. Encourages Positive Self-Talk and Affirmation
Our “WeLL!” Memory Playing Cards include positive affirmations, encouraging users to engage in supportive self-talk. This helps individuals reframe their thoughts in a positive, nurturing way, reinforcing the caring internal voice they’re working to build through therapeutic reparenting.
7. Creates a Mindful and Relaxing Self-Care Ritual
Memory games provide an opportunity for mindfulness, relaxation, and grounding, making them a great self-care ritual. This moment of mindfulness allows individuals to practice self-nurturing, fostering a peaceful mindset that is conducive to reparenting and emotional healing.
8. Fosters Healthy Boundaries and Self-Respect
Therapeutic reparenting is about learning to set boundaries and advocate for oneself. Memory games can be played at an individual’s own pace, helping to practice honoring personal limits. This flexible format allows individuals to respect their boundaries while engaging in self-reflective, healing activities.
9. Builds a Safe and Consistent Practice of Self-Connection
Consistent, small rituals are key to therapeutic reparenting, and our “WeLL!” Memory Playing Cards offer a simple yet effective way to establish this consistency. 5 Ways To Play!
Memory/Match Game
1. Memory/Match Game
Place all the cards picture side down on a flat surface. The first player turns over two (2) cards. If the cards match, then all players say, “Very good” (with a loud hand clap), “Very good” (with another loud hand clap), “Yay” (with arms in the air in the sign of a V). The player then puts the matching cards to the side and turns over two more cards. If they match, repeat until they don’t match. If two cards do not match, then return them face down in their original spot, then all players put their hands up in the “I don’t know” gesture and then laugh gently. It is then the next player’s turn.
One Set Game
2. One Set Game
Choose one card color. For example, take out all the yellow “I am” cards and get them ready to play. You can choose the blue or pink cards. The point is to play with one color only. Place the cards picture side down on a flat surface. Turn over two (2) cards. If the cards match, then all the players say, “Very good” (with a loud hand clap), “Very good” (with another loud hand clap), “Yay” (with arms in the air in the sign of a V). Then you set your matching cards to the side. If the two cards do not match, then return them face down in their original spot, then all the players put their hands up in the “I don’t know” gesture and then laugh gently. For a longer game, you can play with two (2) color sets at the same time.
Speak-Out-Loud Game
3. Speak-Out-Loud Game
Place all the cards picture side down on a flat surface. Turn over one card, show it to the other players and read it out loud. Then all the players say, “Very good” (with a loud hand clap), “Very good” ( with another loud hand clap), “Yay” (with arms in the air in the sign of a V). Then you set the card to the side. Each player gets a turn until all cards are gone.
Group Talk Game
4. Group Talk Game
Play this game in a therapeutic or educational group setting. Place the cards face down. The first player picks one card and talks about it. They can talk about a memory, their feelings, or a wish they have. Put the card back where it came from, and the next player picks a card and repeats the process until everyone has had at least one turn.
One-to-One Talk Game
5. One-to-One Talk Game
This game is meant to be played in a therapeutic or educational setting. Hold the card deck in your hands and have the client or student choose one card. Ask them to read the card out loud and talk about it. They can talk about a memory, their feelings, or a wishful scenario that facilitates expression.
